A cowboy and a physicist walk into a bar. (I don't know why, they just do.) The cowboy walks over to the physicist and is complaining about how his horse can't run as many hours as it used to be able to. The physicist listens to him, asks a few questions, and then says he'll think about it, right? A few hours and a few drinks later, he goes up to the cowboy, pulls out this piece of paper he's scribbled all over, and says "I've got the answer." The cowboy, excited to know how to fix his horse, asks how. The physicist says, "First, we assume a spherical horse in a vacuum.."

Don't think I get it, partner.

[Yeah...he actually did laugh at that.] Where did you hear that?

Because the horse isn't a sphere..

Well, I heard some variation of it from my physics teacher once, but I wanted to include The Cowboy to make it more interesting. Normally it's a spherical cow, but.. [He laughs.] ..a horse sounded better for a cowboy.

I've heard the spherical cow joke. It's well known.

You must have liked your physics teacher.

Same basic joke.

Yeah, Mr. Monnitoff. He was pretty cool and he helped me learn a lot. I mean, the class was only asking about Newton's Laws and stuff, but he and I talked about stuff like time travel and quantum mechanics. I'm pretty good at understanding stuff if I have someone like that to talk about it with, you know?

Very theoretical physics.

I can respect that. I worked mostly with dark matter.

Wow, really? I heard a little bit about Rubin's discovery back in the '50s, but nothing recent. Do you want to talk about it sometime?

Um, alright. A lot of what I do is very, very theoretical and I forced it to be applicable to reality. But, if that doesn't bother you.... [Translation- physics buddy, YAY]

Oh, I get it! It's funny because the physicist is over analyzing the basic scenario of the horses physical decline in overly complex terms. That's hilarious! [He doesn't sound sarcastic, he's actually amused.]

Yeah, I mean. I wouldn't tell such a lame story if it weren't a joke..

No! No, it would be great. I dealt with a lot of theoretical physics and their applications too. Not in dark matter stuff, but with the time travel and parallel universes..

It's a joke. If you don't get it, it's really hard to explain.
